I think it is very important not to push children too hard when they are first starting with a new language. If they are young children, just hearing the sounds of a different language then their own could be intimidating at first.

Be sure to take time and allow the child to get used to the environment, you as a teacher, and all the many new and exciting things that this new learning adventure will offer. Once they see how much fun their friends are having, they will start using the language naturally, and comfortably.

  1. I totally agree! Children are already frightened of all the new people around them and the new school, they need to get used to everything. Only listening to English will help, when they feel confortable, they’ll start using the language naturally. Kids are fast and intuitive learners, there’s no need to push them.
Watching and listening to videos in English may be a good start to get them warmed up. Check out the material Open English . You can look it up in YouTube under OpenEnglishTV.
