I first heard the song All Around the Kitchen on Dan Zanes’ album Family Dance. If you have kids or teach kids, this is a fantastic album that I highly recommend. All Around the Kitchen is a traditional American song, arranged by Dan for this album. It’s a bit zany (sorry for the bad pun) and a lot of fun. So… I decided to record my own version, which is a blast with young kids. Of course I simplified it for the classroom setting. It’s one of the bonus songs in the Dream English Kids Songs Volume 2 Download pack, so if you pick up the album, check it out!

The Actions

In Mr. Zanes version the actions are bit complicated, maybe, for a young ESL language student. So I simplified them, and slowed the song down a bit. Here is a sample of the lyrics on my version:

Stop right there (cock a doodle doodle doo) put your hands in the air, touch your nose, touch your ears!

So if you have a chance check out Dan’s version, or my version. Since it is a Traditional song, there are many versions out there, so give one a try. Your kids will love it!
